Students from Hempstead High School have had the opportunity this fall to visit several area colleges and universities.

So far, students have traveled by bus with HHS Counselor Angela Butler to visit the University of Texas, Texas A&M University, and Texas State University in the past two months.   Band Director Ronald Walker, Sr. also took a group of seniors to Tarleton State University earlier this month.

The campus tours has become a tradition at Hempstead High School after Rebecca Butler, 2018 Class Valedictorian, had the idea in 2017 to arrange for group campus visits as a way to allow more students to get an exposure to the college experience that might not otherwise have the opportunity to do so.  Rebecca took the project by the horns last year and made all necessary contacts to arrange for the campus tours.

In addition to the annual “College and Career Day” held in October each year at the school, Angela Butler has continued the “Campus Visit” tradition this year to make arrangements for students to travel as groups on campus tours across the state.  The project has continued to grow and has almost doubled from four visits last year to eight scheduled for this school year.

Hopefully the tours will help students have a better idea of where they would like to continue their education.  Other scheduled campus tours for the year include the University of Houston in December and Sam Houston State University in January.  She is also working on tours to Prairie View A&M University in February and Blinn College in March.

Hempstead ISD continues to promote education and the goal that all learners will reach their full potential.  Together we are working hard to create lifelong learners by establishing a strong foundation. Hempstead ISD...One Town. One Team. One Goal!
