John Jackson Finishes 10th at State Powerlifting Meet

John Jackson, a junior at Hempstead High School, finished the year in 10th place at the THSPA State Powerlifting Meet held in Abilene on March 23.  Jackson finished the year strong with his personal best in every event and a total lift of 1385 pounds. “John is a tremendous young man that is a true example of hard work paying off,” said Head Powerlifting Coach Royce Hill.  “I look forward to him coming back stronger in 2020!”

At the Regional Powerlifting Meet held in West two weeks earlier, Jackson lifted a combined total weight of 1375 pounds. (Squat - 510, Bench - 310, and Deadlift - 555) to finish in second place and earn a spot at the state meet.

Wyatt Bush and Omarian Gillum  were regional alternates in their weight divisions in Region 2 at 15th and 13th respectively.

"Our student-athletes worked extremely hard all season and made tremendous gains from the start of the year, said Coach Hill.  “I'm excited to see what the future holds for all of these young men!"
