Hempstead High School senior Tom McDade, Jr. signed a letter of intent with Angelo State University on Thursday, February 20. McDade will join teammate Fredarien Lewis, who signed with Angelo State on National Signing Day Rams to play football for the Rams under Coach Jeff Girsch in the fall.
Family, friends, coaches, teachers, and administrators were on hand to show support for McDade at a special signing ceremony that took place in the HHS Competition Gym at Hempstead High School. Fellow teammates and classmates were also on hand to witness the event and show their support.
McDade, who was selected to the 13-3A 1st Team All-District this year for his ability as a quarterback for the Bobcats, thanked his family, friends and coaches for pushing him to do his best every day. “I’m turning my dream into reality right now,” said McDade. While at HHS, McDade has also been active in basketball, track and band.
McDade will receive a four-year scholarship to attend Angelo State and plans to study criminal justice and pursue a career as a homicide detective. He plans to graduate with a degree and hopes to play in the NFL one day.
Congratulations to Tom McDade, Jr. on his accomplishments and scholarship to Angelo State University. Hempstead ISD wishes him the very best in his future endeavors.
